Pioneering the innovation behind Acesulfame K

In 1967, at Hoechst AG in Frankfurt, a groundbreaking discovery unfolded. Karl Clauss, amidst a daring experiment with two very reactive compounds, inadvertently encountered a sweet revelation. While investigating new chemical pathways, Clauss casually wiped powdery white residues from his sweater, only to discover an unexpected sweetness on his fingertip.

This serendipitous moment marked the genesis of Acesulfame K, a pioneering sweetening agent that’s 200x sweeter than sugar. Collaborating with Harald Jensen, Clauss meticulously explored this new class of compounds, ultimately singling out Acesulfame K as the most powerful for not only its sweetness, but more importantly, its purity of taste and robust solubility.

Today, Acesulfame K stands as a cornerstone in sweetening technology, embraced globally for its reliability and versatility across diverse applications, from laboratories to consumer products.
